A RUSSIAN PENCIL FIGURAL STUDY, POSSIBLY ASSOCIATED WITH ILYA REPIN, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY - A pencil on paper figural study depicting a group of standing figures centered on two embracing figures, with several subsidiary figures rapidly sketched around them. Bearing the Cyrillic initials ”И. Р.” lower left. The reverse with a hand-drawn diagram inscribed in Cyrillic with the place names ”Париж” (Paris), ”Берлин” (Berlin), ”Мадрид” (Madrid), and ”Рига” (Riga). The initials and character of the drawing have prompted a possible association with Ilya Repin (1844-1930). There is nodocumentary provenance or authentication for the work, and it is offered as an unidentified Russian drawing. Dimensions: 10 3/4 x 7 7/8 in., (27.3 x 20 cm.)
