AFTER ANNE MARGARETTA BURR, ”OUR ROOM IN THE ARMENIAN CONVENT, JERUSALEM,” 19TH CENTURY - Mixed media on paper after Anne Margaretta Burr (British, 1817–1892), depicting the vaulted interior of the Armenian Convent in Jerusalem, with a solitary Armenian cleric standing at right, richly colored religious imagery at the rear, carpets, cushions, vessels and other furnishings arranged throughout the interior. Inscribed along the lower margin: ”OUR ROOM IN THE ARMENIAN CONVENT JERUSALEM.” Presented under glass in a gilt frame. The composition derives from Burr's ”Our Room in the Armenian Convent in Jerusalem, ” published as plate 6 of Mrs. Burr's Sketches, London, 1846. The Qatar National Library records the publication as a suite of fourteen colored lithographs after Burr's drawings and specifically identifies this composition as plate 6. Bridgeman likewise identifies the published image as a color lithograph by A. Margaretta Burr. Dimensions: Image: 9 1/2 x 13 1/2 in. (24.1 x 34.3 cm)., Framed: 16 x 20 in. (40.6 x 50.8 cm). Condition: Light toning and age-related discoloration of the paper. Craquelure or cracking in areas of applied pigment, particularly across the vaulted ceiling. Not examined out of frame.
