LEV KROPIVNITSKY (RUSSIAN, 1922-1994), ”MATRYOSHKA,” GOUACHE ON PAPER, 1989 - A gouache on paper by Lev Evgenievich Kropivnitsky (1922-1994), an important figure of Soviet nonconformist art associated with the Lianozovo Group. Titled ”Matryoshka” and dated 1989, the composition depicts a monumental stylized female figure derived from the traditional Russian nesting doll. The verso bears a printed Russian label reading: ”Л.Е. Кропивницкий (1922-1994), Россия, 'Матрешка', 1989 г., 60 х 46 см., гуашь на бумаге” (”L. E. Kropivnitsky (1922-1994), Russia, 'Matryoshka, ' 1989, 60 x 46 cm, gouache on paper”). An additional handwritten label reads ”К-89 / МАТРЕШКА / 60 x 46 / 23” x 18”.” Presented under glass in a gilt frame with matting. Dimensions: 24 7/8 x 20 7/8 in., (63.2 x 53 cm.) Condition: The artwork is in good condition. The work is presented under glass and was not examined out of frame. Minor handling wear and light surface abrasions may be present. Framed and matted.
