AN INDIAN MODERNIST FIGURAL OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING, SIGNED AND DATED - An Indian Modernist oil on canvas depicting a stylized group of elongated human figures arranged within a strongly geometric composition. The figures are rendered with simplified linear features and broad areas of blue, gray, yellow, orange, white and muted earth tones, intersected by a dramatic black diagonal band. The flattened forms, expressive distortion and bold division of the pictorial field reflect the influence of Indian modernist and post-modern figurative painting. Dimensions: 54.5 x 35 in., (138.4 x 88.9 cm.) Condition: Unframed. General surface wear and soiling consistent with age and storage. Scattered minor abrasions and losses, particularly toward the margins. The reverse shows staining and discoloration. The canvas appears to have been previously mounted or stretched.
