VOLDEMARS SKULTE (LATVIAN, 1907-1997), WINTER LANDSCAPE, 1975 - A winter landscape depicting a horse harnessed to a traditional sleigh before a rustic log dwelling, surrounded by snow-covered birch trees and forest. Painted in a loose Impressionistic manner with softly modulated whites, blues and violets contrasted with the warmer tones of the horse and timber structure. Signed and dated ”Voldemars Skulte 75” lower right. The stretcher bears a faint handwritten inscription with the artist's name and date. Presented in a giltwood frame. Voldemars Skulte was a Latvian-born painter who emigrated to the United States in 1950. Sources record that he continued his studies in New York and studied privately with the Latvian painter Ludolfs Liberts. His work was exhibited in the United States and Europe. Dimensions: 20 x 24 in., (51 x 61 cm.) Condition: Overall good condition. Canvas appears stable and retains a clean painted surface, with minor age-related wear.
