ÜMMET KARACA (TURKISH/GEORGIAN, B. 1956), STILL LIFE WITH FLOWERS - Oil on panel. A richly impastoed still life depicting a basket overflowing with yellow, white and blue flowers, with additional blossoms and fruit arranged across the foreground. Executed in a warm golden-yellow palette with vigorous, heavily textured brushwork. Signed ”Ü. Karaca” lower right. Presented in a molded giltwood frame. Ümmet Karaca was born in Georgia in 1956 and studied in Tbilisi from 1978 to 1982. He held his first solo exhibition in Tbilisi in 1987 and his first solo exhibition in Turkey at Varol Art Gallery, Istanbul, in 1993. Although particularly associated with Istanbul cityscapes and Büyükada subjects, Karaca is also documented as having produced still lifes and portraits. Dimensions: 11 x 14 in., (28.5 x 36 cm.) Condition: Overall good condition. Pronounced craquelure throughout, particularly in the background. Minor surface wear and scattered abrasions. Heavy impasto appears generally stable.
