A RUSSIAN KHOLMOGORY HAND-CARVED BONE MINIATURE RELIEF, 19TH CENTURY - An oval, hand-carved miniature relief executed in the Kholmogory tradition, depicting a seated Christ Child in classical drapery with a downcast head, holding a branch, and accompanied by a lamb in a pastoral landscape. The carving is finely worked in shallow relief with delicate handling of facial features, hair, and flowing garments, framed by stylized foliate motifs and a serrated border. The relief is mounted in a turned oval wooden frame, with a gilt inner slip and glazed front. The reverse retains an old paper backing incorporating a fragment of printed ephemera from 1934 London, and a metal hanging loop. Dimensions: L: 12 3/4 in., (32.4 cm.)
