A PAIR OF QAJAR GOLD-INLAID STEEL FIGURES OF FAT-TAILED SHEEP, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY - A pair of unusual Qajar Persian steel figures modeled as standing fat-tailed sheep, each with an elongated head, prominent curved horns and slender legs. The bodies are finely decorated in gold koftgari with scrolling foliate and floral ornament, including stylized blossoms within arabesque reserves. Each figure is fitted with an arched handle rising from the back, suggesting that the figures may have served as small containers or vessels. Persia, Qajar dynasty, 19th century.
