A JAPANESE BRONZE GROUP OF MONKEYS, MEIJI PERIOD - A Japanese patinated bronze figural group, Meiji period, late 19th century, modeled as three playful monkeys arranged upon a naturalistically cast rocky outcrop. One monkey sits atop the rock holding a persimmon or other fruit, its mouth open in an animated expression, while two younger monkeys climb and play below. Finely modeled with particular attention to the textured fur, expressive faces, hands and feet. The faces and fruit enriched with contrasting reddish-brown patination. Dimensions: H: 10 5/8 in., (27 cm.) Condition: Very good. General wear and patina. One monkey un-screwed. Glue residual on fruit. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
