A TIBETAN CORAL AND TURQUOISE-INLAID FIGURE OF A RHINOCEROS - Cast metal figure of a rhinoceros, richly embellished with numerous cabochon coral inlays set within raised gilt-metal bezels. The animal is modeled standing foursquare with a prominent horn, stylized facial features, and decorative saddle-like panels across the back outlined with twisted wirework. The feet are accented with turquoise-colored cabochons, providing a striking contrast to the predominantly red coral decoration. The reverse retains a curved tail, and the eyes are inset with dark glass or stone. Such jeweled animal figures were produced in Tibet and the Himalayan region as decorative objects, altar ornaments, or auspicious representations. The rhinoceros, a relatively uncommon subject in Tibetan metalwork, is rendered in a highly stylized manner emphasizing its ornamental rather than naturalistic qualities.
