A FRENCH BRONZE SCULPTURE OF A HOUNDSMAN WITH DOGS BY HENRI HONORÉ PLÉ, LATE 19TH CENTURY - Depicting a standing Renaissance or early modern huntsman accompanied by two hounds, one rearing at his side while the other crouches at his feet. The bearded figure is modeled in period attire consisting of a feathered cap, fitted doublet, gloves, high boots, and sword suspended at his waist. The composition is animated with pronounced movement and naturalistic detailing characteristic of French academic animalier sculpture of the late nineteenth century. Raised on a circular naturalistic base above a molded socle plinth. Signed ”Henri Plé” to the base. Henri Honoré Plé (1853–1922) was a noted French sculptor associated with animalier and genre subjects, exhibiting at the Paris Salon and recognized for finely detailed bronze figures combining human and animal studies. Dimensions: H: 26 in., (66 cm.) Condition: Overall good condition with light surface wear, scattered rubbing, minor abrasions, and small areas of oxidation consistent with age.
