A TAPIO WIRKKALA ”ICE BREAKER” CRYSTAL BOWL / ASHTRAY FOR IITTALA, FINLAND - A Finnish clear crystal bowl or ashtray designed by Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) for Iittala, model no. 3318, known as ”Ice Breaker.” Of heavy circular form with a thick, smoothly polished rim, the base incorporating an arrangement of sharply faceted pyramidal forms of varying sizes, conceived as stylized icebergs or floating ice. Signed to the rim ”TAPIO WIRKKALA - 3318” and retaining the original red Iittala ”Made in Finland” label. The model was produced in 1963-1974 and again in 1986-1987. Dimensions: D: 7 7/8 in., (20 cm.) Condition: Good vintage condition. Scattered light surface scratches and wear consistent with age and use. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
