A PAIR OF TIBETAN COPPER AND REPOUSSÉ BRASS RITUAL TRUMPETS, 19TH/20TH CENTURY - A pair of Tibetan ritual trumpets, each constructed with a long, curved copper body mounted with repoussé, chased and engraved brass fittings. The large terminals are modeled as ferocious dragon or makara heads with open jaws, prominent teeth, projecting snouts and elaborate scale, foliate and scroll decoration. Each trumpet is further embellished with molded lotus-form collars and broad engraved bands, the copper tubes terminating in narrow upturned mouthpieces with decorated brass mounts. Applied suspension loops and chains, with later or associated copper wire elements around the zoomorphic terminals. Tibet, 19-20 cc. Dimensions: L: 22 1/2 in., (57.2 cm.) Condition: Overall good condition with minor signs of wear, oxidation, dents, minor deformation and scattered losses to the thin sheet-metal decoration. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
