A SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRE ENAMEL SCENT BOTTLE, CA. 1765-1770 - A British enamel-on-copper scent bottle, probably South Staffordshire, circa 1765-1770. Of baluster form with a hinged domed upper section and gilt-metal mounts, decorated against a pale yellow ground with raised white rocaille cartouches enclosing finely hand-painted bouquets of polychrome flowers, including roses and other blossoms. The hinged upper section opens to reveal a white-enamel interior and the neck of the scent bottle. The form and delicate floral decoration are characteristic of South Staffordshire enamel wares of the third quarter of the 18th century. Dimensions: H: 3 1/4 in., (8.5 cm.) Condition: Good.
