AN ENGLISH ENAMEL-ON-COPPER SNUFF BOX WITH COMICAL CHILDREN'S SCENES, 18TH CENTURY - An English oval enamel-on-copper snuff box, the hinged cover hand-painted with a humorous scene of two boys at play, one riding upon the back of the other and raising a whip in his hand, set within a rural landscape with a cottage beyond. The underside of the cover is painted with a further playful scene depicting a boy running with a kite. The white enamel body is ornamented with molded and gilt foliate motifs and mounted with gilt-metal rims and hinge. Probably South Staffordshire or Bilston, second half of the 18th century. Dimensions: 1 1/4 x 3 x 1 1/2 in., (3 x 7.5 x 4 cm.) Condition: Good. General surface wear. Craquelure. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
