A LOUIS XV STYLE MOTHER-OF-PEARL AND POMPONNE SNUFF BOX, MID-18TH CENTURY - A fine rectangular snuff box of waisted bombe form, constructed of lustrous mother-of-pearl panels within gilt-metal pomponne mounts. The hinged cover is centered with an applied asymmetrical Rococo cartouche of scrolling foliage enclosing a dark lacquered panel finely engraved in gold with floral and foliate ornament. The interior is entirely lined with mother-of-pearl. Probably German or English, circa 1750-1770. Dimensions: 1 3/8 x 2 7/8 x 2 1/2 in., (3.5 x 7.5 x 6.5 cm.) Condition: Very good. General wear.
