AN ENGLISH ENAMEL ON COPPER PLAYING-CARD BOX, 18TH CENTURY - An English rectangular enamel-on-copper box, the slightly domed hinged cover finely hand-painted with a fan of playing cards, including a court card and hearts, surrounded by colorful sprays of flowers. The sides and interior of the cover similarly decorated with scattered floral bouquets and sprigs against a white enamel ground. Mounted with dark metal rims and hinge. England, second half of the 18th century. Dimensions: 7 1/4 x 5 5/8 x 1 3/4 in., (18.5 x 14.5 x 4.5 cm.) Condition: Good. Damage on the enamel near corners and lower edges.
