A RUSSIAN SILVER AND GEM-SET TORAH POINTER (YAD), BEARING MOSCOW 1873 MARKS - A Russian silver Torah pointer, or yad, of elongated form, the tapering shaft spirally fluted and terminating in a realistically modeled hand with an extended index finger. The elaborate handle is applied with Jewish and Russian decorative motifs, including a Star of David, representations of the Tablets of the Ten Commandments, foliate ornament and a bird-form terminal, and is further set with red and turquoise-colored cabochons. Fitted with a suspension ring. Bearing marks including a Cyrillic maker's mark, ”В.С for Viktor Savinkov (Savinsky) Moscow assay master, 1873”, ”84” silver standard and a Moscow-type city mark.
