A CHANTILLY PORCELAIN DESK INKSTAND, FIRST PERIOD, 18TH CENTURY - A French Chantilly soft-paste porcelain octagonal desk inkstand, first period, circa 1730-1750, decorated in the Japanese Kakiemon taste with polychrome birds, insects, flowering plants and stylized floral borders in iron-red, blue, turquoise, green and gilt. The fitted top incorporates two removable octagonal covered receptacles, a rectangular covered compartment, pen rests and apertures, centered by a raised cylindrical holder. Bearing an iron-red hunting-horn mark associated with the Chantilly manufactory. Dimensions: 7 1/8 x 7 1/8 in., (18.1 x 18.1 cm.) Condition: Age-related wear with rubbing and loss to the gilt decoration. Minor surface marks and firing imperfections. Some components possibly associated or restored. Please refer to photographs.
