12 TURKISH UPS SUMERBANK FINE PORCELAIN DINNER PLATES WITH TUGHRA - Set of twelve Turkish UPS Sumerbank fine porcelain dinner plates. Manufactured in the second half of the 20th century, with monogram and oval marks on the back side, center. Large diner plates, each with a central blue Tughra, the Imperial Ottoman insignia for Sultan Suleiman I the Magnificent (1520–1566), within blue double thin concentric circles and a wide blue banded rim. Unusual design for a Sumerbank piece, presumably part of a larger set used for Turkish government official events. The absence of serial numbers and designers' references supports the belief that these plates are very rare. Dimensions: D: 11 1/4 in., (28.5 cm.) Condition: Very good. One plate has a chip on the lower side of the rim. Very few under 2mm nicks on the blue enamel. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
