A RUSSIAN BRONZE GROUP BY VASILY GRACHEV, 1881 - ”A GALLOPING COSSACK” Cast by the C.F. Woerffel Foundry, St. Petersburg, dated 1881. Modeled as a Cossack leaning forward on a galloping horse, holding the reins in one hand and wielding a pistol in the other. Raised on an integral oval base with a plain molded border. Signed on the base in Cyrillic ”ЛѢП. ГРАЧЕВЪ” for ”Modeled by Grachev, ” further marked ”ФАБР. С.Ф. ВОЕРФЕЛЬ” for the C.F. Woerffel Foundry, and struck with the circular Finance Ministry stamp dated 1881. Dimensions: H: 13 7/8 in., (35.5 cm.) Conditions: Areas of some rubbing to patina, good overall condition.
