A LARGE RUSSIAN GILT-SILVER LIDDED TANKARD BY GRACHEV, 1866 - Of tall, faceted form, the body finely engraved with grapevines, leaves and pendant clusters of fruit, one panel centered with a scrolling monogram. The naturalistically modeled base and branch-form handle are entwined with applied vine leaves and grapes. The domed hinged cover is similarly engraved and surmounted by a finely cast squirrel seated among oak leaves and acorns. Marked beneath with the Cyrillic signature ”GRACHEV”, assay master's initials, date 1866 and silver standard. Weight: 45 oz., 1270 g. Dimensions: H: 9 7/8 in., (25 cm.) Conditions: Very good.
