A RUSSIAN PARCEL-GILT-SILVER AND NIELLO LIDDED TANKARD, OVCHINNIKOV, 1878 - Of cylindrical form with raised horizontal bands, decorated in niello with scrolling foliage and rosettes surrounding circular reserves depicting Moscow's Triumphal Gate and Petrovsky Palace, an engraved monogram, and a vacant cartouche beneath the handle. The hinged lid bears a matching monogram and foliate decoration within a notched border. Fitted with a curved handle and pierced thumbpiece. Gilt interior. The underside bears the maker's mark ”П. ОВЧИННИКОВЪ” beneath the Imperial eagle, Moscow city mark, ”84” silver standard, and a partially worn dated assay mark. Weight: 19.2 o., 544 g.
