A RUSSIAN GILT-SILVER LIDDED GOBLET, 1788 - Of tall baluster form, the elongated bowl repoussé and chased with stylized floral and foliate ornament against a finely textured ground. The detachable domed cover is decorated with raised oval panels and applied scrolling foliage, surmounted by an urn-form finial issuing a naturalistic bouquet of flowers. The bowl is raised on a knopped stem enriched with applied openwork leaves and scrolls. The spreading domed foot is chased with floral sprays within shaped reserves and finished with a broad fluted rim. The interior of the bowl and underside of the cover are gilt. Hallmarks: ”G.L” in Cyrillic, city mark, date 1788. Weight: 21.2 oz., 602 g. Dimensions: H: 16 3/4 in., (42.5 cm.) Conditions: Very good overall.
