A RUSSIAN GILT-SILVER AND CLOISONNE ENAMEL KOVSH WITH IMPERIAL EAGLE - Russia, circa 1900. Of circular bowl form with a flat shaped handle, the exterior decorated with scrolling foliage and stylized flowerheads in polychrome cloisonné enamel against a gilt stippled ground. The upper border is set with a continuous row of turquoise enamel cabochons beneath a twisted-wire rim. The gilt interior is applied with a circular cloisonné enamel medallion depicting the crowned Russian Imperial double-headed eagle holding the orb and sceptre. The handle is decorated with a Russian bogatyr holding a sword and shield amid foliate ornament. Hallmarks: ”88” silver standard and a partially ”IP” maker's mark. Weight: 2.9 oz., 84 g. Dimensions: L: 4 in., (10.1 cm.) Conditions: Very good. Some minor gilt lost at bottom rim. Few dark spots at the back side of the handle. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
