A RUSSIAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER PRESENTATION CUP AND COVER HENRIK AUGUST LANG FOR NICHOLLS & PLINCKE, ST PETERSBURG, 1845 - Of Empire-style goblet form, the tapering body raised on a spreading circular foot and decorated with chased fluting and leaf-tip borders. The detachable domed cover is similarly fluted and surmounted by a mushroom-form finial. The interior and upper exterior band are gilt. Engraved in Finnish: ”Muistoksi kirkkoherralle Andreas Scheningille Suomen St. Maarian kirkolta. 22 p. heinäkuussa w. 1845.” ”In remembrance of Pastor Andreas Schening from the Finnish Church of St Mary, 22 July 1845.” Marked with the workmaster's initials ”MAG: AN” for Magasin Anglais, the St Petersburg city and assay marks, the date 1845 and the ”84” silver standard. ”N&P” mark of Nicholls & Plincke's, the St Petersburg city and assay marks, date 1845 and ”84” silver standard.
