A RUSSIAN KHLEBNIKOV GILT-SILVER AND NIELLO SPOON, 1888 - A Russian engraved silver and niello spoon. The exterior of the bowl is decorated with an intricate niello scene depicting a prominent Russian architectural landmark rendered in fine detail, with a cobblestone forecourt and multi-tiered towers. The rim is bordered with a gilded band. The inside of the bowl is gilded. The central portion of the handle is decorated with a spiral-fluted section, ending in a rounded knop finial with a small ball tip. Hallmarks: ”Khlebnikov”, Cyrillic letters ”A.R”, 1888, 84 silver proof, St. George Moscow mark, Russian Imperial Eagle. Weight: 2 oz., 56 g. Dimensions: L: 6 3/8 in., (16.2 cm.)
