A PAIR OF RUSSIAN PORCELAIN CANDELABRA, IMPERIAL FACTORY, ST. PETERSBURG, 1825–1855 - Imperial Porcelain Factory, period of Nicholas I. Each elaborately modeled in the Rococo Revival style, the shaped tripartite base enriched with turquoise trelliswork, scrolling rocaille ornament, and extensive gilding. The bases and baluster-form stems are set with gilt-framed reserves finely painted with exotic birds, butterflies, and flowering branches. Each candelabrum issues three scrolling foliate branches surrounding a raised central light. The candle nozzles are modeled as flower buds above turquoise-edged leaf-form drip pans. The branches and stems are further decorated with molded acanthus leaves, pierced scrollwork, and turquoise and gilt highlights. Each marked beneath with the underglaze blue Imperial cipher of Nicholas I. Dimensions: H: 20 1/2 in., (52 cm.) Conditions: Very good. Some minor wear on gilt areas.
