A RARE RUSSIAN LARGE OVAL PORCELAIN SERVING DISH AND COVER, PERIOD OF NICHOLAS I - A rare Imperial Russian porcelain covered gravy bowl, made by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, during the reign of Nicholas I (1825–1855). Of oval form, the bowl and domed cover are painted with scattered puce floral sprays and enriched with gilt-edged, moulded basket-weave borders. The cover is surmounted by a moulded floral finial. Marked beneath with the underglaze blue crowned cypher of Nicholas I. Dimensions: L: 16 in. (40.6 cm.) Conditions: Overall good condition, with rubbing and scattered losses to the gilding, particularly along the rims and finial.
