A LARGE RUSSIAN PORCELAIN ”PROVERB” CHARGER BY THE KORNILOV BROTHERS PORCELAIN FACTORY, ST. PETERSBURG, CIRCA 1870–1880 - Of circular form with a scalloped rim, decorated in the Russian Revival taste, the center transfer-printed in cobalt blue with a stylized chequered Imperial double-headed eagle, enclosed by geometric bands. The border inscribed in blue Cyrillic lettering with the proverb ”ЛЮБЛЮ, КУМА, КАК Я У ТЕБЯ; А КАК ТЫ У МЕНЯ, ТАК СМЕРТЬ НА МЕНЯ, ” within an ochre and blue interlaced framework, translating approximately as ”I love you, dear friend, when I am your guest; but when you are mine, it is the death of me”; marked beneath with the blue Kornilov Brothers factory mark beneath the Imperial eagle. The blue factory mark is associated with Kornilov Brothers production of approximately 1861–1884. Dimensions: D: 14 1/2 in., (36.8 cm.)
