A RUSSIAN PORCELAIN MONTEITH FROM THE BABIGON SERVICE BY THE IMPERIAL PORCELAIN FACTORY, ST. PETERSBURG, 1823–1824 - Of oval form and raised on a spreading gilt foot. The body is painted with a light grey band of gilt flowering vines between gilt, white and russet geometric borders. The upper register is decorated with a gilt laurel band. The deeply notched gilt rim is formed as alternating palmettes and stylized swan necks and is flanked by two upswept loop handles issuing from moulded shell terminals. The notched rim was designed to suspend wine glasses by their stems for chilling or rinsing. Apparently unmarked. Dimensions: L: 13 in., (33 cm.); H: 6 in., (15.2 cm.) Conditions: Excellent, with no apparent chips, cracks, or restoration. Minor scratching in a few places. A couple tiny spots of wear to gilding. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
