A RUSSIAN PORCELAIN VASE COMMEMORATING ALEXANDER PUSHKIN'S BIRTH - M.S. Kuznetsov Porcelain Factory, Dulevo, late 19th century. Of tapering cylindrical form, the vase is finely decorated in the Russian Revival style, the front centered with a circular medallion portrait of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799–1837), executed in grisaille within a beaded red border. Surrounding the portrait are scrolling foliate and geometric strapwork motifs in polychrome enamels of yellow, turquoise, red, and green on a grey ground, with stylized floral accents and architectural Gothic-style panels near the base. The upper register with inscription in Cyrillic ”Александр Сергеевич Пушкин” (Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin) in shaded blue lettering against a pale ground, framed by red and grey ornamental bands, the rim with a striped border. Mark: apparently unmarked. Dimensions: H: 8 1/4 in., (21 cm.) Conditions: Good condition overall, minor rubbing to gilding. Normal wear and traces of use, consistent with age.
