A RUSSIAN PORCELAIN PLATE WITH A PROVERB, KORNILOV BROS., 1861-1884 - Kornilov Brothers Factory, St. Petersburg, Late 19th Century, 1890–1900. A circular porcelain plate with a scalloped edge, richly decorated in raspberry red, cobalt blue, and gilt. The central medallion features a stylized double-headed Imperial eagle, framed by bands of geometric motifs. The border bears a traditional Russian proverb in stylized Old Slavonic script: ”Ешь пирог с грибами, а язык держи за зубами” (”Eat the pie with mushrooms, but keep your tongue behind your teeth”). Markings: Underside with an underglaze blue factory mark of the Kornilov Brothers beneath the Imperial double-headed eagle, inscribed in Cyrillic: ”Бр. Корниловыхъ / С. Петербургъ” (Kornilov Brothers, St. Petersburg). Dimensions: D: 10 in., (25 cm.) Conditions: Excellent condition overall; minor expected wear to gilding; no chips or cracks visible.
