A WÜRTTEMBERG ORDER OF FREDERICK, KNIGHT'S CROSS (FRIEDRICHS-ORDEN), C. LATE 19TH TO EARLY 20TH CENTURY - A gilt and white-enameled Maltese cross with radiating gilt rays between the arms, suspended from a laurel wreath surmount. The obverse center displays a profile portrait of King Frederick I of Württemberg within a blue enamel border inscribed ”Friedrich König von Württemberg.” The reverse bears the inscription ”Dem Verdienste” (”For Merit”) within a blue enamel ring carrying the motto ”Gott und mein Recht” (”God and My Right”). A finely executed example of one of the principal orders of the Kingdom of Württemberg, instituted in 1830 and awarded for distinguished civil and military merit.
