A COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL FOR THE CENTENARY OF THE FRIEDRICH WILHELM UNIVERSITY OF BERLIN, 1910, IN ORIGINAL CASE - Circular bronze commemorative medal depicting the equestrian figure of Wilhelm II facing right. The obverse bears the Latin inscription ”REX BORUSSIAE GUILIELMUS II IMPERATOR GERMANORUM” (”King of Prussia Wilhelm II, German Emperor”), together with the date in Roman numerals MDCCCCX (1910). The reverse is inscribed ”Vniversitati Fridericae Guilelmae Berolinensi saecvlaria agenti”, commemorating the centennial celebrations of the Friedrich Wilhelm University of Berlin (now Humboldt University of Berlin). Housed in its original fitted presentation case embossed in gilt with the Imperial Prussian eagle. Issued in 1910 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the University of Berlin by King Frederick William III of Prussia. The medal reflects the close association between the German Imperial state and one of Europe's foremost academic institutions during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Dimensions: D: 4 1/4 in., (10.5 cm.) Conditions: The bronze medal displays an even dark patina with scattered areas of surface wear and minor rubbing to the high points. The original case exhibits significant exterior wear, scuffing, and losses to the covering material, while remaining structurally sound and complete. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
