A CAUCASIAN WALKING CANE WITH SILVER INLAY, 19TH CDENRUTY - Of characteristic Caucasian shepherd’s form, the cane carved from hardwood with a deeply curved crook handle, the upper half profusely decorated with fine silver wire inlay in geometric and concentric circular motifs. The crook ornamented with a continuous band of circular rosettes, the shaft further embellished with diamond panels, lattice reserves, and elongated tear-shaped cartouches filled with dotted and linear designs. The lower portion plain and fitted with a metal ferrule. The decorative vocabulary and technique are consistent with 19th century Caucasian workmanship, particularly Dagestan and neighboring regions, where silver wire inlay on wood was widely employed for arms, accoutrements, and personal objects. The dense geometric ornament reflects the traditional aesthetic of the eastern Caucasus. Dimensions: L: 34 in., (86.5 cm.) Conditions: Minor surface wear and small losses and chips to inlaid wire and shaft in isolated areas. Age-related shrinkage lines visible in the wood near the crook.
