A CAST-BRASS SOUTHERN-EUROPEAN OIL LAMP, 18TH/19TH CENTURY - A cast-brass oil lamp of a type most commonly found in Italy and Spain, as well as some parts of North Africa and the Ottoman Empire. In Italy it is known as a ”Lucerna Fiorentina”, in Spain it is known as a ”Velón de Lucena”. The lamp consists of an urn shaped body from which protrude two spouts which hold the wicks, the body set atop a thin stem with a wide, circular foot. The lid of the body moves up and down along a cylindrical rod surmounted by a decoratively shaped handle, said rod also being affixed with a small triangular plate to which are attached three tools for managing the use of the lamp.
