A LARGE PAINTED PORCELAIN PLAQUE AFTER WILLIAM-ADOLPHE BOUGUEREAU (1825–1905) - A finely painted porcelain plaque depicting a seated maiden in a lavender robe flanked by two winged putti offering garlands of flowers, after the celebrated French Academic painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau. The scene is executed with meticulous detail, emphasizing the softness of the flesh tones, the luminous folds of the drapery, and the idealized, romantic mood typical of Bouguereau’s oeuvre. The plaque is artist-signed at the lower right corner, Feret McKenya. Porcelain plaques after Bouguereau were especially popular with Continental manufacturers such as KPM Berlin and other German and Austrian workshops at the turn of the 20th century, produced both for export and luxury decorative markets. While unsigned examples are common, the presence of a painter’s signature indicates a studio or decorator’s attribution, enhancing collectible value. Please make all inquiries before bidding. Dimensions: D: 14 in., (35.5 cm.) Condition: The porcelain plaque remains in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration detected under close inspection. Painting surface is clean, retaining strong coloration with only minor rubbing commensurate with age. The giltwood frame shows wear and abrasions to gilding, particularly at the edges and corners, and some stable drying cracks, consistent with its age.
