Bidspirit auction | A PAIR OF BRONZE NEOCLASSICAL
A PAIR OF BRONZE NEOCLASSICAL VASES ON MARBLE BASES, 19TH CENTURY - A finely cast pair of neoclassical bronze vases, each of ovoid ribbed form with an everted lip and twin handles modeled as stylized masks issuing ring pulls. The shoulders are subtly engraved with classical motifs, lending elegant surface detail to the warm brown patinated bronze. Each vase is mounted on a stepped black marble plinth, the front panel of which is decorated in low relief with a procession of classical figures an homage to antique friezes and a hallmark of 19th-century neoclassical revival taste. The overall form recalls the Grand Tour aesthetic, modeled after ancient Greco-Roman metal vessels and intended as refined decorative objects for collectors of classical art.
