A SILVER ETROG BOX, POSSIBLY EASTERN EUROPE OR AUSTRIA-HUNGARY, 19TH CENTURY - The oval silver box raised on three scroll-form feet and fitted with a hinged domed lid surmounted by a loop handle. The body is richly repoussé and chased with an allover floral and foliate decoration of stylized roses and scrolling leaves against a textured ground. The lid is similarly decorated and bordered with a raised Hebrew inscription reading ”פרי עץ הדר” (”pri etz hadar”), the traditional Biblical phrase referring to the citron used during the Jewish festival of Sukkot. The interior is fully gilt. The underside engraved with a weight inscription reading ”26 W.” together with additional small marks consistent with 19th-century Continental silver work. Weight: 9.6 oz.
