A RUSSIAN SILVER AND CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL MATCHBOX CASE, LATE 19TH CENTURY - Rectangular and open-ended in form, designed to accommodate a cardboard matchbox, executed in silver and richly decorated overall with finely worked polychrome cloisonné enamel in turquoise, cobalt blue, pale blue, white, and red. The principal faces centered with a symmetrical foliate and floral composition, framed by a continuous border of turquoise enamel roundels set within twisted wire edging. The short ends are pierced with elongated oval apertures, similarly bordered with turquoise enamel dots. The interior is left plain. A high-quality personal accessory typical of late Imperial Russian cloisonné production, intended for domestic use and discreet carriage. Weight: 1.2 oz., (36 g.)
