A CONRAD FREITAG (1843-1894) WATERCOLOR ON PAPER MARITIME PAINTING, 1876 - A watercolor on paper maritime scene by German-American artist Conrad Freitag (1843-1894), depicting a scene of a man walking with a young girl by the water as they look out over a bay with moored ships. The piece is signed to the lower left by the artist and dated '1876'. Freitag was a German born immigrant to the United States who enlisted in the New York State Militia during the Civil War. After his discharge in 1865 he painted a scene of the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, which earned him some recognition and began his art career. He would go on to be most well-known for his maritime paintings, particularly his depictions of New York harbor scenes. America, 19th century. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
