LUCAS JOHNSON (1940-2002) MAN WALKING, 1968 GRAPHITE ON PAPER DRAWING - A mid-century avant-garde artwork by American artist Lucas Johnson (October 24, 1940 – August 31, 2002). Titled in Spanish and reading as Hombre Caminando, translates as, Man Walking. Dated 1968 and hand signed by the author. his graphite drawing on paper is part of the early Mexican period production by Lucas, who spent a decade in the Latin American country creating a remarkable body of works so intertwined with the local culture and politics that many gallerists and museums regard him as a Mexican Master by his own merit. Lucas Johnson was an American artist and major force in the Texas art scene from the late 1960s to the early 2000s. Largely self-taught.
