A MANOUCHER YEKTAI (IRANIAN-AMERICAN, 1921–2019), OIL ON BOARD, STILL LIFE WITH FLOWERS, CA. 1970 ATTR - A vigorous and tactile still life composition attributed to Manoucher Yektai, executed with his characteristic impasto technique and bold, expressionist palette. The thickly applied pigments and sculptural brushwork transform a bouquet into an abstracted, almost architectural arrangement of color and texture. The deep blacks and earthy reds contrast with the luminous greens and yellows, exemplifying Yektai’s synthesis of Persian sensibility with the gestural vitality of the New York School, among whom he was a close associate of de Kooning and Kline.
