A BRONZE SCULPTURE OF A STANDING ATHLETE (AFTER LYSIPPOS) - A finely modeled bronze sculpture depicting a nude male athlete in contrapposto pose, inspired by the celebrated Apoxyomenos (The Scraper) of Lysippos, 4th century BCE. The figure stands with a relaxed yet balanced posture, his head inclined and one arm extended as if engaged in a moment of self-reflection or preparation. The well-defined musculature and idealized anatomy follow the Classical Greek canon of proportion revived during the Renaissance and perpetuated through 19th- and early 20th-century academic casting traditions. The dark, even patina and quality of detail suggest an early 20th-century French or Italian foundry production, possibly for museum or academic study purposes. Footnotes: Bronze reductions of antique prototypes such as the Apoxyomenos, Discobolus, and Doryphoros were highly prized among collectors and art academies in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for their embodiment of Classical ideals.
