AN ALEXANDER LEGRAND, FRENCH, OIL ON CANVAS STILL LIFE PAINTING, 19TH CEN. - A large oil on canvas painting by Alexander Legrand (French, 1822 - 1901). The artwork depicts a composition featuring a basket filled with grapes and peaches. Fruits are also abundant on an architectural cornice in front of a basket, including a pomegranate, apples, grapes, and peaches. To the right, on a rich crimson striped cloth, is a mandolin, and above it is an urn filled with red and white flowers. The background of a composition is a classical landscape with a round structure reminiscent of the Temple of Vesta in Rome. France, the second half of the 19th century. Condition: Canvas has been restored, with at least one patch visible on the verso. The recto shows several small scratches but is otherwise well preserved. Stretcher appears to be original. Frame is later replacement.
