A RUSSIAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER AND NIELLO SPOON - Of traditional oval-bowled form, the interior finely decorated with scrolling foliate niello ornament on a parcel-gilt ground, the back of the bowl plain, the tapering handle with spiral engraved banding and baluster finial. The design exemplifies late 19th century Muscovite craftsmanship in niello work, combining precision engraving with rich gilding to enhance the dark silver-sulphide ornament. Hallmarks: Cyrillic maker’s mark ”CT”, assayer's mark ”AK”, 84 silver standard, and St. George slaying the dragon Moscow town mark. Weight: 2.3 oz (65.2 g.) Note: Comparable spoons of this type were produced by leading Moscow silversmiths during the last quarter of the 19th century, often for domestic use or as presentation pieces.
