A RUSSIAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER LOBED BASKET, 1859 - Of lobed and flaring petal-like form, the basket rests on an oval foot and is fitted with an arched hinged handle. The interior retains traces of gilding. The design, with its undulating floral contours, reflects mid 19th century Russian taste blending Empire and early Romantic ornament. Later Soviet re-mark attests to post 1917 inspection and continued circulation of Imperial silver. Hallmarks: Maker’s mark ”РП” (Cyrillic), illegible assayer’s mark, 1859 date mark, 84 silver standard, St. George Moscow mark; with later Soviet 875 and star mark. Weight: 17.1 oz. (484.8 g.)
