A RUSSIAN-CUT RUBY GLASS VASE, 19TH CENTURY - Of flared form, the body cut to clear with a band of deep diamond-point faceting, beneath a frieze of vertical panels, and above a lower register of stylized leaf cartouches. The wide rim and base with finely cut radiating flutes. The glass of a rich ruby-cranberry tone, characteristic of high-quality Russian Imperial-period table and decorative wares. This form and cutting style are associated with the production of the Imperial Glass Factory, St. Petersburg, and related regional workshops working in the second half of the 19th century, when colored and cased glass of strong saturated tones was particularly fashionable among the aristocracy.
