A CONTINENTAL POLYCHROME WATCH HUTCH IN THE FORM OF A SEDAN CHAIR, 19TH CENTURY - The small case modeled as a sedan chair, decorated overall with painted putti in garden and cloud scenes, surrounded by floral festoons, ribbons, and trophies. Fitted with beveled glass panels on three sides and a hinged front door with gilt-metal clasp, opening to a velvet-lined interior designed to house a watch. Raised on short bracket feet with original textile covering. These charming watch hutches, often produced in France, Austria, and Switzerland in the 19th century, were popular decorative objects designed to elevate pocket watches into small domestic clocks.
